The South Yorkshire Fire and Rescue service in the UK has gone viral and won an army of LGBTQ+ fans thanks to a video clapback at homophobic trolls.
The fire service made the TikTok in response to homophobic comments they received on a video posted to celebrate LGBTQ+ History month.
The comments ranged from “Fighting fires has nothing to do with gender or sexuality”, to “the fire brigade should remain polically impartial” and, of course, “cry more lol”.
Rather than ignore the comments they recieved on that particular video and others, the South Yorkshire service decided to publicize them in a video reply – and the result was wonderful.
Along with clips of employees reading out negative comments they had received, the video had the following captions woven into it:
“LGBT+ people still face prejudice at home and at work.
“We celebrate LGBT+ Pride in solidarity with all those we serve and employ”, and finally…
“Fires don’t discriminate, neither do we.”
The video received heaps of praise from the queer community in its comments and has now been viewed over 470,000 times.
Fabulous stuff.
