Another disappointment. Another letdown.
Ryan Phillippe crushed the hopes of gays fans everywhere over the festive period by making a post to Instagram which led followers to believe he might be coming out. But he wasn’t. I know, we took it hard too.
The Cruel Intentions and Studio 54 heartthrob shared a picture with a (HAWT) male friend, Matt Sinn, which showed the pair lying next to a Christmas tree, in front of a roaring fire, in pyjamas, along with the caption “Merry Christmas from our house to yours👬”.
Fans and, well, mostly gays, jumped straight into the comments to say things like “Making some news here 👀” and “Congrats you two!”, obviously thinking that this was Ryan’s way of quietly coming out over the holidays.
The congrats came flooding in, hilariously, with well-wishers leaving comments along the lines of: “So happy you’re living your truth! 🌈🌈”, “Beautiful male couple 👬”, and one female fan saying: “Ladies we lost another one …”.
Alas, Matt cleared up the confusion on his Instagram Stories by sharing a picture of both of their girlfriends, along with the caption: “No, Ryan Phillippe didn’t come out. Here are the girlfriends”.
As one commenter perfectly put it: “The dream of every gay I know has been realized and crushed in the same picture…😂😂😂 Merry Christmas 🎄🎄🎄”
Ryan, of course, was previously married to Cruel Intentions co-star Reese Witherspoon. The two divorced in 2007 and have two children, Ava and Deacon, together. Ryan also has a 10-year-old daughter, Kai, with his ex-girlfriend Alexis Knapp.
As you can imagine, we’re devastated that Ryan is, in fact, straight, but we’ll always have the infamous shower scene.
Let’s cherish that.
