Are DC Comics about to give us a gay Superman?? That’s something we’d like to (D)C
Following on from Robin coming out as bisexual earlier this month, we have more queer superhero news (potentially).
Before you get too excited, we don’t mean Henry Cavill (although, boy, have we thought about it…)
We don’t even really mean Clark Kent, so before anyone gets too pressed about “Why do you have to make these straight fictional characters gay??” etc etc, let’s just look at the latest tea from DC world!
See, this is the thing about straight people (and aliens)… sometimes they have gay kids.
This is what has been suggested as a future development for the Man of Steel franchise, by DC Comics artist Ethan Van Sciver in a Youtube titled “SUPERMAN IS GAY! Shocking DC Comics SCOOP!!” (below).
Apparently Clark Kent – as we know him – will be killed off and his son with Lois Lane, Jon Kent, will take his place as Superman. And Jon will, in due course, come out as gay.
“Clark Kent I guess is going bye-bye and they are going to replace him with Jonathan Kent, and then they are going to announce that Jonathan Kent is gay. So Superman is effectively gay, everyone. He is gay.”
He proposed that the coming-of-age tale would take place in Tom Taylor’s book series Superman: Son of Kal-El.
That lycra suit with the ability to walk and change at a super-pace? Honey, he had to be gay… We’re here for it!
