Netflix drops first full trailer for Tim Burton’s ‘Wednesday’ and it looks sickeningly good

Tim Burton’s Wednesday has its first full trailer.

Jenna Ortega stars as Wednesday Addams in the newly-released teaser trailer for Wednesday!

Tim Burton, the mind behind titles like Alice in WonderlandEdward Scissorhands and The Nightmare Before Christmas, makes his television directing debut with the new reworking, which also stars Catherine Zeta-Jones (Morticia Addams), Luis Guzmán (Gomez Addams) and Isaac Ordonez (Pugsley Addams).

Christina Ricci, who of course epitomised the character as a lasting icon in the Barry Sonnenfeld-directed 1990s Addams Family franchise, will also appear in the reboot playing character Marilyn Thornhill.

Fans on social media flocked to share their delight that Ricci – who remains, for many, the most memorable Wednesday Addams we’ve ever seen – would be appearing in the reboot when it was announced by Netflix back in June. For that reason, specific details about her role are currently being kept tightly under wraps.

Also appearing in the reboot: Gwendoline Christie (Principal Larissa Weems), Jamie McShane (Sheriff Galpin), Percy Hynes White (Xavier Thorpe), Hunter Doohan (Tyler Galpin), Emma Myers (Enid Sinclair), Joy Sunday (Bianca Barclay), Naomi J Ogawa (Yoko Tanaka), Moosa Mostafa (Eugene Ottinger), Georgie Farmer (Ajax Petropolus), and Riki Lindhome (Dr. Valerie Kinbott).

In the two-minute clip shared today (August 17), Wednesday Addams (Ortega) is seen mercilessly lobbing some piranhas into her public school swimming pool, which happens to be filled with annoying boys (we’re already obsessed), before being transferred to Nevermore Academy, a place for exceptional but troublesome students.

“Little did I know I was stepping into a nightmare, full of mystery, mayhem and murder,” narrates Wednesday. “I think I’m going to love it here.”

Wednesday is a coming-of-age comedy which charts Wednesday Addams’ years as a student at Nevermore Academy, where she attempts to master her emerging psychic ability, thwart a monstrous killing spree that has terrorised the local town, and solve the supernatural mystery that embroiled her parents.
