Lady Gaga confirms Joker 2 casting, starring alongside Joaquin Phoenix, with new musical teaser

Paws up! Lady Gaga in Joker 2 is goooooooooo

Mother Monster, currently wowing fans on her Chromatica Ball world tour, has confirmed her heavily-rumoured casting in Joker 2 by sharing (August 4) a teaser.

The sequel, officially titled Joker: Folie à Deux, will star Gaga opposite Joaquin Phoenix, reprising his role as Joker – and it’s a musical.

The teaser LG released is set to ‘Cheek to Cheek‘, a track by Fred Astaire which Gaga has famously released alongside Tony Bennett.

Variety first reported in June that Gaga was tipped for the role of Harley Quinn in the upcoming  sequel, and the teaser – depicting both her and Phoenix as classic-style silhouettes – confirmed the news fans have been hoping for.

One for fact fans out there: director Todd Phillips also happened to be a producer on A Star is Born

When the stand alone Joker movie came out in 2019, few could have predicted that it would be such a huge commercial and critical success, also nabbing star Joaquin Phoenix a Best Actor gong at the Oscars from a slew of nominations across the board at awards season.

At the time of the film’s box office domination, Warner Bros reportedly offered Phoenix a $50 million deal to play the complex villain in two more movies.

The Gaga announcement comes just a day after Warner Bros. revealed that the sequel would have a 2024 release date.

The term ‘Folie à Deux’ refers to the clinical term for the ‘shared madness’ between two people – in which delusions and hallucinations are believed to transfer from one person to another.

It’s already giving toxic, psychotic villainous dup vibes and we are living for it.

Joker 2’ will hit theaters on October 4, 2024.
