Elvira, Mistress of the Dark, revealed that not everyone was pleased with her recent coming out.
Cassandra Peterson, best known as Elvira, delighted queer fans around the world when she came out as a member of the LGBTQ+ community last September.
However, it would seem that not everyone took the news so well.
Speaking on an episode of Behind the Velvet Rope with David Yontef (5 January), Peterson delved into her coming out experience:
“Nobody was ready for that,” she explained. “And apparently we kept it a pretty damn good secret because nobody knew — and everybody was surprised.”
“The straight people, I knew that there was going to be some horny old men out there who were just not going to like the fact that they didn’t have a chance with me anymore,” she said, then adding “I hate to tell them they already didn’t have a chance of me anyway,” she added.
LOVE. HER.
Peterson says she lost about 11,000 followers across her social media accounts when the news of her 19-year relationship with partner Teresa “T” Wierson went viral.
“People just said ‘Elvira, you lied to me. I don’t respect you anymore. Goodbye’,” the actress recalled.
But, as it happens, Peterson was far more worried about how her LGBT+ fanbase might react:
“Honestly, I worried more about my gay fan base,” she said. “Because I hope they embraced it, but I was feeling like: ‘What if they think I’m a big fat hypocrite, and I was lying to them?’”
Fortunately, she didn’t have to worry, as the news was received with pure joy by pretty much all of the community – and our gal Elvira grew 60,000 new follower’s in just one day.
We love to see it.
