Dehenna Davison, an MP for Bishop Auckland in the ruling Conservative Party in the UK government, has come out as bisexual and has said she’s ‘overwhelmed by the outpouring of love’ she’s received.
The Conservatives don’t really get a great rap when it comes to LGBTQ+ representation so it’s something of a big deal that Davison has come out. After allowing the heinous LGB Alliance a space to promote their nonsense at the party conference last week, we applaud her bravery for telling her truth in what could be seen as a hostile environment.
Davison said: “The reason I haven’t done a kind of ‘By the way, guys’ is because I don’t want being bi to be considered a big deal. If I did a very public kind of coming out parade, that would be me saying there’s something really unusual about this and trying to make a big deal of it when to me it’s not. It’s just part of who I am.”
Davison is understood to be the first female Tory MP to come out as bisexual. She is currently divorcing her husband, John Fareham, a Conservative councillor 35 years her senior whom she married in 2018.
