Putin was speaking at the annual meeting of the Valdai Discussion Club in Sochi, the city that hosted the 2014 Winter Olympics.
The presidential homophobe outlined that his country should adhere to its own “spiritual values and historical traditions,” while steering clear of Western “sociocultural disturbances” (cute politician talk for gheys and queers) during his Thursday (21 October) speech, Washington Post reports.
He went on to discuss transgender acceptance, declaring that children being “taught that a boy can become a girl and vice versa” was “on the verge of a crime against humanity”.
As we all know, Putin has longstanding status as a hero in the face of crimes against humanity, so this is all making perfect sense.
He then claimed that supporting transgender (human) rights was fuelling an end to “basic things such as mother, father, family or gender differences.”
Turning his attention to cancel culture, the Russian president called it: “the aggressive deletion of whole pages of their own history, reverse discrimination against the majority in the interests of minorities … constitute movement toward public renewal”. Adding: “It’s their right, but we are asking them to steer clear of our home. We have a different viewpoint.”
Although ‘cancel culture’ is certainly a toxic beast at the best of times, there is a fine line between common celebrity cancel culture and that of honest, just and necessary accountability. Lord only knows why Putin would be so afraid by the prospect of being held accountable…
LORD ONLY KNOWS.
