Lady Gaga announces new Top Gun: Maverick song ‘Hold My Hand’

Pop Music Emergency! Mother Monster has announced a new track!

Lady Gaga has announced a new song, her first single in more than two years, for the forthcoming Tom Cruise movie Top Gun: Maverick, called ‘Hold My Hand’.

LG took to social media for the announcement, saying:

“When I wrote this song for Top Gun: Maverick, I didn’t even realize the multiple layers it spanned across the film’s heart, my own psyche, and the nature of the world we’ve been living in. I’ve been working on it for years, perfecting it, trying to make it ours. I wanted to make music into a song where we share our deep need to both be understood and try to understand each other—a longing to be close when we feel so far away and an ability to celebrate life’s heroes. I’m so grateful to Tom and Hans and [director Joseph Kosinski] for this opportunity—and it’s been a beautiful experience working with them. Me, BloodPop, Ben Rice and everyone else who worked on it with us are so excited to share it with you. This song is a love letter to the world during and after a very hard time. I’ve wanted you to hear it for so long. And I’m so excited to give it to you on May 3. “Hold My Hand.”

“🎶 But if you decide to
I’ll ride in this life with you
I won’t let go till the end 🎶”

We already know Gaga slays when it comes to making music for movies. She won the 2019 Academy Award for Best Original Song for A Star Is Born’s ‘Shallow’, and was nominated for Best Original Song at the 2016 Oscars for ‘Til It Happens to You.’

Earlier this week, the singer teased lyrics from the new track, writing, “Hold my hand everything will be ok I heard from the heavens that clouds have been grey.”

The original 1986 Top Gun movie’s Oscar-winning song ‘Take My Breath Away’ was performed by Berlin.

In the new movie, Tom Cruise returns as Pete “Maverick” Mitchell, a courageous test pilot who dodges the advancement in rank that would ground him. He finds himself training a detachment of TOPGUN graduates for a specialized mission the likes of which no living pilot has ever seen, Maverick encounters Lt. Bradley Bradshaw (Miles Teller), call sign: “Rooster,” the son of Maverick’s late friend and Radar Intercept Officer Lt. Nick Bradshaw, aka “Goose.”

Top Gun: Maverick, the sequel to 1986’s Top Gun, hits theatres on Friday, May 27. Trailer below:
