The singer behind Christine and the Queens has been sharing an update
Chris, the French singer formerly known as Christine and the Queens, has spoken about his gender identity, pronouns, and the new moniker ‘Redcar’ for his forthcoming album.
In a video shared to TikTok last week (August 18), in French, Chris tells followers: “I’ve been a man for a year now – a little more officially in my family and in my relationship. It is a long process.”
It’s not the first time Chris has shared aspects of his progress, telling New York Times in March:
“My journey with gender has always been tumultuous. It’s raging right now, as I’m just exploring what is beyond this,” he said. “I kind of want to tear down that system that made us label genders in such a strict way.”
Chris has also update his pronouns to he/him on social media.

Chris’ previous record, his second album, was simply titled Chris, and has gone by that name since.
Chris has been a publicly out member of the LGBTQ+ community for years now. During a 2016 interview with the BBC , he opened up about being pansexual:
“It means that I can fall in love with someone regardless of their gender,” he said, “regardless of how they define themselves. I don’t really see that as an obstacle, as a definition.”
Then adding, “I’m just trying to escape any labels there cos I can fall in love with a man who defines herself as a woman, for example. “
“I can fall in love with a man that decides she is going to become a woman and then what does that make me?”
The new album, ‘Redcar les adorables étoiles’, will be released under the name ‘Christine and the Queens presents Redcar.
