Fans of Dragula are rejoicing as the much anticipated 4th season of the drag/horror competition returns on October 19 and exclusively on Shudder and we couldn’t be more excited.
After they had announced a casting call back in April, The Boulet Brothers seem to have put together another rancid, talented and horrific selection of contestants ripe to show off their spooky wares in the new series.
If you’re a fan of the horror genre, you already know about Shudder which is basically another streaming platform which is perhaps a little more niche. It’s the perfect home for Dragula, however, which prides itself on being the antithesis to RuPaul’s Drag Race, eschewing beauty and pageantry for the darker side of drag.
LA drag royalty and presenters of the show The Boulet Brothers (who are in fact a couple and not really brothers) said of the new series: “This is absolutely the best season of the show that we’ve ever produced. It’s shocking, it’s packed with stars, and it’s an intense, unpredictable ride that’s going to be a game changer for televised drag. We can’t wait for the world to see what we’ve been up to – we have such sights to show you!”
Guest judges this season include quite the eclectic array of stars including Vanessa Hudgens (High School Musical, The Princess Switch), Harvey Guillén (What We Do in the Shadows), Kristian Nairn (Game of Thrones), Misha Osherovich (Freaky), queer country music icon Orville Peck, pop metal star Poppy, Ray Santiago (Ash vs. The Evil Dead), and RuPaul’s Drag Race‘s season eight winner Bob the Drag Queen, with additional judges still to be announced.
If you’ve not seen the show before, check out seasons 1-3 on Amazon Prime Video. We’re gagged that Shudder will have pumped some cash into the show, proven by the fact that the prize money has now matched that of RPDR with a whopping $100k up for grabs. We still love the budget-free charms of the early seasons and let’s be honest, if you’re eating brains or puking up on stage, sometimes HD can be a bit… much!
