Courtney Stodden credits Elliot Page and Sam Smith for helping them come out as non-binary

This month Courtney Stodden took to social media to reveal that they identify as as non-binary, and credited the likes of Sam Smith and Elliot Page in helping them comfortably do so.

Page, star of Juno and Umbrella Academy, came out as transgender at the end of 2020 and was met with huge public support, which it seems helped Courtney in their decision to speak their own truth.

“I don’t Identify as she or her. I’ve never felt like I ever fit in anywhere. I was bullied horribly in school because I was different. The other girls never understood me. I never really connected with anyone my age. My spirit is fluid w a kaleidoscope of colour” – the star said in a post.

The reality star and Celebrity Big Brother alum went on to say: “For the longest time I would sit in the shadows and watch brave souls like Elliot Page, Sam Smith and other mainstream celebrities come out.”

They continued: “I knew I felt the same as them, but I was afraid I would be ignored because I present as high-femme non-binary.”

Stodden was met with a wave of support from fans on Twitter:

“i’m about to f–kin cry you are truly amazing and such a beautiful soul,” wrote one follower.

“One of the strongest individuals ever, So much love & respect” commented another.

Another writing “So so happy to see you finally taking control of your life and being yourself ❤️

Congratulations, Courtney!
