Tom Ford pays tribute to his husband Richard Buckley who has died aged 72

Designer Tom Ford has announced that his partner of over 35 years Richard Buckley passed away on Monday night “of natural causes after a prolonged illness”.

Ford said via a statement to Vogue : “It is with great sadness that Tom Ford announces the death of his beloved husband of 35 years, Richard Buckley. Richard passed away peacefully at their home in Los Angeles last night with Tom and their son Jack by his side.”

The couple met way back in 1986 and Tom said it was love at first sight. They became one of fashion’s most solid couples, introducing their son Jack back in 2012 and getting married in 2014 when it became legal back in 2014.

Buckley was also in fashion, working at New York Magazine, Vanity Fair, Italian Vogue, and Women’s Wear Daily. He was also editor-in-chief of Vogue Hommes International but it was while he was at Women’s Wear Daily that he met Ford in 1986. Buckley was 38 at the time and Ford was 25.
