Met Gala 2021 is a cornucopia of queer representation and breath-taking lewks

The postponed Met Gala 2021 went ahead last night with some of the most outrageous outfits of all time adorning the red carpet.

Top of the list was of course Lil Nas X who has basically exploded onto the scene in between the last Met Gala and this one. Whereas in 2019 Lady Gaga wowed in 4 outfits, LNX came onto the red carpet in a Versace robe only to reveal a golden suit of armour beneath it which then came off to reveal a sparkling catsuit.

Aussie superstar Troye Sivan was slightly more subdued in a figure-hugging black slip dress and giant platform shoes.

Queer representation was out in full force with Schitt’s Creek star and creator Dan Levy making his red carpet debut in a blue Loewe’s Jonathan Anderson and Cartier costume that meant a lot more than met the eye.

Inspired by the Costume Institute’s ’In America: A Lexicon of Fashion’ exhibit which was this year’s theme for the Met Gala, Dan collaborated with Anderson to create this arresting ensemble that celebrates “the resilience and the love and the joy” of the LGBTQIA+ community.

Meanwhile Nikki tutorials looked stunning in a dress and headpiece which were a homage to American drag queen and gay activist Marsha P. Johnson which had her quote ‘pay it no mind’ adorned to the front of her gown.
