Saved by the Bell, Eternals, and Hacks were among the honorees at the 33rd Annual GLAAD Media Awards held in Los Angeles on Saturday, hosted by Bob the Drag Queen, Eureka O’ Hara, and D.J. “Shangela” Pierce.
GLAAD hosted the first of two ceremonies for this year’s GLAAD Media Awards on Saturday (2 April) at Los Angeles’ Beverly Hilton hotel, announcing winners for 16 of its 30 categories.
Big successes on the night included Eternals, Saved By The Bell, Hacks, and It’s A Sin, while Pedro Almodóvar’s Parallel Mothers won outstanding film in limited release and Hulu’s Changing the Game took outstanding documentary for its investigation of the transgender inclusion in sports.
Gay holiday rom-com Single All The Way, which features queer icon Jennifer Coolidge in a supporting role, took outstanding TV movie.
Special awards also went to Pose star Michaela Jaé Rodriguez, who received the Stephen F. Kolzak Award from Andrew Garfield, and Kacey Musgraves was honored with the Vanguard Award.
The remaining 14 categories, including drama series, music artist and children’s programming, will be announced at GLAAD’s New York ceremony on May 6.
“This year’s GLAAD Media Awards come at a time where LGBTQ visibility and storytelling can be the frontline response to a dangerous rise in anti-LGBTQ legislation around the country,” said GLAAD President & CEO Sarah Kate Ellis.
Ellis continued, “Our nominees and award recipients, including Eternals, Hacks, and Saved by The Bell, We’re Here, and RuPaul’s Drag Race showcase the beautiful diversity of LGBTQ people. At a time when we need it most, these stories, these stories rise against hate, enlighten, entertain, and send an undeniable message: we are not going anywhere.”
Elsewhere, JoJo Siwa rocked a sparkling rainbow top as she posed with her Dancing With The Stars partner Jenna Johnson Chmerkovskiy, Christina Ricci served a masterclass in Hollywood elegance, and Kacey Musgraves, Troye Sivan, Mira Sorvino and Paris Jackson all slayed lewks on the red carpet too.
The GLAAD Media Awards will stream exclusively on Hulu on April 16.
