From the Haus of Gaga to the House of Gucci. The trailer for Mother Monster’s next major movie project is here and it’s clear that she’s the star of the show.
Getting top billing in a trailer that is a who’s who of Hollywood elite, Gaga’s acting chops are on full display as femme fatale Patrizia Reggiani opposite an unrecognisable Jared Leto as Paulo Gucci in Ridley Scott’s highly anticipated biopic.
It’s thick Italian accents at dawn for all the cast including Adam Driver, Salma Hayek, Jeremy Irons and the godfather himself (of fashion this time) Al Pacino as the patriarch Aldo Gucci.
The film comes already laden with a soupçon of controversy. After initially praising Gaga’s casting, Reggiani then sniped in an interview that she was annoyed she hadn’t been in touch to meet her, saying: ‘It is not an economic question. I won’t get a cent from the film. It is a question of good sense and respect.’
In response, it was confirmed that producers didn’t want Lady Gaga to meet with her because, quite sensibly, they were ‘aware of not wanting to endorse or support the awful crime.’
Patricia Gucci also went on record to say that the family were truly disappointed with the movie (having not seen it) mainly due to A-listers being cast to play family members unconnected to the murder, zero contact with Ridley Scott and alleged inaccuracies in the book it’s based on.
Guccis said in an interview with Associated Press: ‘They are stealing the identity of a family to make a profit, to increase the income of the Hollywood system. Our family has an identity, privacy. We can talk about everything, but there is a borderline that cannot be crossed’
Clearly this is a story that continues to ruffle feathers and Gucci is obviously still a huge name in fashion. Whilst one could be surprised that Gaga would want to piss off such a fashion power house, when a role like this comes along with a cast and director like that attached, she was clearly Born This Way to play it (groan).
