After a very pandemic sized gap (it was originally scheduled to be released July 2020), the second trailer for Ghostbusters: Afterlife has dropped and it’s a spooktastic affair, even bringing back the hounds from our nightmares, the terror dogs.
Starring Paul Rudd, Carrie Coon, Finn Wolfhard from Stranger Things and McKenna Grace from Handmaids Tale, the movie also brings back all the surviving cast in their original roles. So that’s Bill Murray, Dan Ackroyd, Sigourney Weaver, Ernie Hudson and Annie Potts (who we get to see in the new trailer).
Set in ‘Summerville’ in Oklahoma, a long way from New York City, the story focusses on Egon Spengler’s family and a host of familiar ghosts. Director Jason Reitman (original director Ivan Reitman’s son) has said that he wanted to recreate the special effects from the 1984 Ghostbusters, paying homage to the feel of his father’s work.
2016’s female lead Ghostbusters starring SNL comedy legends Kate McKinnon, Melissa McCarthy, Leslie Jones and of course Kristen Wiig fell foul of the ‘review bombing’ blight in modern media. Male fans all seemed get their knickers in a bunch at the thought of female Ghostbusters so decided to hate the film before they even saw it. Obviously this practice is beyond tiresome, truly counter-productive and infinitely stupid. Let’s hope everyone give this one a chance and by the look of the trailer, it’s going to be something scarily special.
