A well turned out Nick Jonas and his actor wife Priyanka Chopra-Jonas were wheeled out this morning to deliver us the nominations for the Oscars 2021 peppered with a few crappy jokes and some wholesome coupley-ness.
Anthony Hopkins becomes the oldest person to ever be nominated for Best Actor at 83 for his performance in The Father. Also in the same category is Chadwick Boseman who has been nominated for his final performance before his tragic death from cancer last year.
After campaigns and boycotts due to the lack of diversity in recent years, the nominations have opened up with a diverse set of nominees from around the world, a far cry from the #oscarssowhite complaints of yesteryear.
In the Best Supporting Actress category our fave is Glenn Close for Netflix’s Hillbilly Elegy where she’s almost unrecognisable as a chain-smoking potty-mouthed granny.
The beyond fabulous Viola Davis becomes the most nominated black actress in Oscar history, up for Best Actress along with singer Andra Day who shines in The United States Versus Billie Holiday. The fabulous Frances McDormand and Carey Mulligan are also nominated in the same category.
All eyes were on Best Director and for the first time there are TWO women nominated, Chloé Zhao and Emerald Fennell. Only five women have ever been nominated with just Kathryn Bigelow winning for The Hurt Locker in 2009.
The coveted Best Picture Oscar nominations are as follows: The Father, Judas And The Black Messiah, Manc, Minari, Nomadland, Promising Young Woman, Sound Of Metal, The Trial Of The Chicago 7
The ceremony is on Sunday April 25th, check your local listings to see where you can catch it.
