Beleaguered A-lister Armie Hammer is once again on the receiving end of sexual assault claims, this time for allegedly raping a woman in 2017.
Back in Jan, we reported on how Armie set the internet on fire when disturbing texts he had apparently sent were leaked. Despite his denials, it set in motion a cavalcade of disastrous events leading him to step down from a huge movie with J-Lo.
This week he’s back in the press for all the wrong reasons again. A 24-year-old known only as Effie made the claims during a virtual news conference yesterday.
She said ‘Armie Hammer raped me for over four hours in Los Angeles, during which he repeatedly slapped my head against a wall, bruising my face. During those four hours, I tried to get away and he wouldn’t let me. I thought that he was going to kill me.’
Hammer’s lawyer has refuted the claims saying that relations with the woman were ‘completely consensual, discussed and agreed upon in advance, and mutually participatory.’
No matter what the result, it’s hard to see how Hammer will ever recover a career anything like he had in the past. Despite the cannibalistic nature of his texts there were calls for new rules on privacy as well as criticism for ‘kink shaming’ the actor. Suddenly things look a lot more bleak.
