The estate of music icon Prince have announced that they are releasing an album of never-before heard material on July 30, six years after he passed away.
Prince was a queer icon whether he liked it or not and his untimely death aged just 57 sent shockwaves around the world. Just like Michael Jackson, he had problems with drugs and although prolific, his final years were a far cry from his hey day.
Despite his androgynous image and his gender bending performance style and overtly sexual music, he became a devote Jehovah’s Witness in later life. There was confusion over a remark he said in 2008 but then God and the gays have always been uneasy bedfellows.
According to the press release, the album deals with some very relevant issues and is “a powerful creative statement that documents Prince’s concerns, hopes, and visions for a shifting society, presciently foreshadowing an era of political division, disinformation, and a renewed fight for racial justice.”
