Fans of one of the best sitcoms of all time rejoiced today with the news that their favourite pompous opera loving radio psychiatrist Frasier is returning.
This is a golden age of television with streaming services like Netflix, Disney+ HBOMax vying for your hard-earned bucks. They have enormous budgets and are always looking for the next huge series that will convince people to shell out for a subscription.
Unsurprisingly Paramount+ (it originally played on Paramount in the US) is going to be the home of the new series of Frasier and Kelsey Grammer said yesterday “I gleefully anticipate sharing the next chapter in the continuing journey of Dr Frasier Crane.”
Reboots of classic TV shows are no new thing with The X-Files, Will & Grace and Roseanne all receiving a fresh series recently with mixed results. Frasier is a different beast however. It went out on a high in 2004 having won 34 Emmys including Best Comedy Series FIVE times.
So far no further cast announcements have been made but it is bound to star Roz, Niles and Daphne in some capacity. Sadly John Mahoney who played Frasier and Niles’ father Martin Crane passed away in 2018.
