What’s that noise? Why yes, it’s the twinkling sound of shards from a glass ceiling falling to the ground as Lil Nas X’s controversial music video for Montero (Call Me By Your Name) sails past the the 200 million mark on YouTube.
Upon its release, the video cause something of a stir with its stark religious fantasy images and overtly gay theme. Enough so that even (Republican) politicians got involved and Nike put a stop to the pimping of their trainers with drops of human blood.
The fact such a divisive video (it has also amassed 750k ‘thumbs down’ as well) has been viewed SO many times is proof indeed that rocking the boat pays dividends. What we don’t know is how many of those views are religious homophobes watching it again and again to be sure just how sacrilegious it is. SO WHAT if they had to undo their trousers to watch it? It’s RESEARCH.
Meanwhile Lil Nas X’s new track Sun Goes Down drops next week and you can pre-order/pre-save it here. More news on that as and when we get it. Now let’s just watch Montero one more time and get those views up.
