OMFG – anyone who remembers Masters of the Universe is about to brown their hairy briefs, He-Man is back with a new show on Netflix!
Director Kevin Smith (of Clerks and Mallrats fame) has been entrusted by Mattel with the power (of Grayskull) to produce a new series, continuing straight after the event of the eighties cartoon set on the planet of Eternia.
The recent reboot of She-Ra (He-Man’s twin sister, also on Netflix) recently came to an end after the fifth series having received some great reviews but also criticisms for being too ‘woke’. No such danger of that here as this is a love letter according to Smith, who spoke to Entertainment Weekly:
‘It’s not just simply like these two dudes [He-Man and Skeletor] have been trying to beat each other up for decades. We get to tell stories of abuse. We get to kind of tell stories of isolation, grief. We use these characters as long as they’ve been around — and most people consider them toys or action figures — to tell insanely human stories set in a very inhuman world.’
What WE care about is the bulging muscles, the bitchy insults from Skeletor and Evil-Lyn being the biggest bitch in the universe. Luckily she’s being voiced by Lena Headey who you’ll know as playing that OTHER massive beee-atch – Cersei Lannister form Game of Thrones.
The rest of the cast are made up of some killer names including Sarah Michelle Gellar, Alicia Silverstone and Mark Hamill with Supergirl’s Christopher Wood playing Prince Adam/He-Man.
We’re fan-girling hard here and cannot wait for the first 5 episodes to drop on July 23. In the mean time, here are some of Skeletor’s best insults – we defy you not to steal a few for yourself.
