Mother Monster Lady Gaga is receiving praise for her “kind” gesture towards Liza Minnelli during the end of Sunday night’s (27 March) 2022 Oscars ceremony.
Despite much of the post-Oscars 2022 chat orientating around that altercation between Will Smith and Chris Rock (the uncensored version of which you can find below), there was another standout moment that had the Twitterverse talking.
Gaga and Minnelli, who won the award for Best Actress for her leading role in Cabaret in 1973, appeared on stage together to present the Best Picture award, which ultimately went to Sian Heder’s CODA.
However it was the interaction between the two stars that had viewers’ hearts melting:
“The public, they love you,” Gaga said while looking at Minnelli.
“I’m finally honoured to present the final award of the evening with the true showbusiness legend,” Gaga continued. “She’s celebrating the 50th anniversary of Cabaret. Oscar-winning actress, Liza Minnelli.”
At one moment, when the 76-year-old actor was trying to read her lines displayed on the teleprompter, Gaga leaned over to her and comfortingly said: “I got you.”
Minnelli instantly responded by saying: “I know.”

Elsewhere in LGBTQ+ news at the 2022 Oscars, the unstoppably fantastic Ariana DeBose made history as the first openly queer Afro-Latina to win acting Oscar, meanwhile The Eyes of Tammy Faye’s Jessica Chastain addresses ‘bigoted’ anti-LGBTQ+ laws during her Best Actress acceptance speech, and Kristen Stewart proudly shared a kiss (below) on the red carpet with fiancée Dylan Meyer.

The stunning pair, who announced their engagement last November after two years together, held hands as they posed for pictures, before sharing a quick kiss. And, of course, WE LOVE TO SEE QUEER LOVE VISABILITY.
As for the aforementioned Will Smith/ Chris Rock debacle, which saw Smith storm the stage and slap Chris Rock after the host made a joke about wife Jada Pinkett Smith’s hair loss, you can see the clip below.
Pinkett-Smith has shared openly – often with great humour – about her struggle with alopecia, but it seems that on this particular evening, Will was not in the mood for jokes at his wife’s expense.
