It was only recently that the governing body of French rugby eschewed international ‘guidelines’ and said it would allow trans women to participate in competitive games.
Well, it seems there’s no end to the inclusivity of rugby in France right now as Grindr has just signed a €1 million/year deal to be the min sponsor for the club Biarritz Olympique. Unlike in the movie Steelers, this isn’t a gay team and with the lads set to be wearing the logo on their kit – rugby clubs around the world could learn a thing or two.
Grindr said in a statement: “Grindr is excited to partner with JB Aldigé and the Biarritz Olympique Pays Bsque Rugby Club. The club has outspoken against homophobia and has committed to Grindr to continue its work to increase inclusivity and acceptance in the league and rugby overall.”
Clearly being inclusive and speaking out about LGBTQ+ injustice pays dividends. French rugby are leading the way in terms of speaking out before the sponsorship comes a-knocking simply because they want to do the right thing. Admirable.
