In news that is pretty bitter sweet to be honest, the highly anticipated movie version of  Everybody’s Talking About Jamie is going to be skipping the cinema in favour of going straight to Amazon Prime Video.

The hit musical was written for the stage by Tom MacRae and Dan Gillespie Sells having gotten the idea from documentary Jamie: Drag Queen at 16 about a teenager who goes to his school prom in drag.

The movie version stars Max Harwood, Richard E. Grant, Sarah Lancashire and Shobna Gulati and was due to hit cinemas last year. Due to the pandemic however and despite movie theatres being open again, the decision to go ‘straight to video’ isn’t quite as desperate as it sounds.

Films have found huge success with premier streaming this year and it’s the perfect movie to watch at home with pals on a night in – which is still most of our evenings at the moment, let’s be honest.

We can’t wait to see how they’ve realised the uplifting tale with a life-affirming soundtrack and fierce queens from stage to screen and we won’t have to wait for long – it’ll hit Amazon Video Prime on September 17. See you done the front (room)!
