It’s a good day for fans of drag with the announcement of when the debut Antipodean series of RuPauls Drag Race is due to air AND news of Dragula season 4 appearing magically like shady queens of the night.

First up, the big news is that RuPaul’s Drag Race Down Under is hitting our screens on May 1. That ain’t long at all! Originally just supposed to be featuring Aussie queens, the show moved to New Zealand due to the pandemic opening the competition up to Kiwi queens (Kiweens?).

The new show will be on WOW Present Plus in the States but check your local listing for where and when you can catch it. Expect numerous references to Kylie, Kath & Kim, Priscilla Queen of the Desert and more shrimps than you can stick on a barbie (PLEASE can one of the queens dress up as Barbie with shrimps hanging off her).

Queens taking part are Anita Wigl’it, Art Simone, Coco Jumbo, Elektra Shock, Etcetera Etcetera, Jojo Zaho, Karen From Finance, Kita Mean, Maxi Shield and Scarlet Adams.

Fans of alternative drag will be gagged to get some new info about Dragula at last. Presenters The Boulet Brothers have put up an ad on their social media announcing that casting has begun for the Shutter ( the horror streaming platform) exclusive season 4.

Focussing more on horror, prosthetics and grotesque challenges, it is the antithesis of Drag Race and all the more interesting for it. One bit of good news is that they have matched the RPDR prize money of $100,000 which clearly means that Shudder is putting some much deserved big bucks behind the new series.
