Without ever appearing on the show, it feels like Cher has been part of RuPaul’s Drag Race from the very beginning.

From RuPaul’s impression (‘snap out of it!’) to the multitude of episodes dedicated to her and the queens that impersonate her, the spectre of Cher looms large over the long running show.

Speaking to Entertainment Weekly promoting her new documentary Cher & The Loneliest Elephant, she says in true droll fashion ‘I’m going to have to go on it at some point’.

With her son Chaz having been on the show as well as the Cher: The Unauthorised Ruscial challenge AND her own runway theme, it would seem rather curmudgeonly not to do Drag Race now as it’s so in its stride.

There was speculation that her no-show so far was due to the required long hours of filming but this is the first time she’s admitted that it’s going to happen, whether she likes it or not. The only other megastar to have received her own ‘Rusical’, themed runway and countless references is Madonna.

The question is, if Cher does it, does that mean Madge will follow suit? The world’s biggest divas have always been HUGE influences on the show so it’s about time one of them stepped up, Lady Gaga did it years ago after all.

Cher & the Loneliest Elephant looks like a tear jerker and half and you can catch it on Paramount+ on April 22 in the US with other countries TBA.
