A while back we brought you the first trailer for Disney’s Cruella and since then Disney has said that it would be a theatrical release only along with the much delayed Black Widow. Well no more!

After the success of Raya and the Last Dragon this month, the entertainment behemoth has decided that a simultaneous release on Disney+ and at cinemas for both fierce female led movies is the best course of action.

Raya required ‘premium access’ which at $30/£20 on top of an already established user base of over 100 millions households. It’s not hard to imagine that at a time when cinema going is uncertain, even this summer, having the option to watch safely in your own home as well as at the movies is a wise idea… and clearly lucrative.

Cruella stars the effervescent Emma Stone in an origin story of the 101 Dalmatians baddie and will be out on May 28th. Marvel’s Black Widow is a stand alone tale about the Russian Avenger starring Scarlet Johansson and Florence Pugh, it’ll be on Disney+ and at theatres on July 9th.
