Disney reverses course and will release Cruella and Black Widow on Disney+

A while back we brought you the first trailer for Disney’s¬†Cruella¬†and since then Disney has said that it would be a theatrical release only along with the much delayed¬†Black Widow. Well no more!

After the success of Raya and the Last Dragon this month, the entertainment behemoth has decided that a simultaneous release on Disney+ and at cinemas for both fierce female led movies is the best course of action.

Raya¬†required ‘premium access’ which at $30/¬£20 on top of an already established user base of over 100 millions households. It’s not hard to imagine that at a time when cinema going is uncertain, even this summer, having the option to watch safely in your own home as well as at the movies is a wise idea… and clearly lucrative.

Cruella¬†stars the effervescent Emma Stone in an origin story of the¬†101 Dalmatians¬†baddie and will be out on May 28th. Marvel’s¬†Black Widow¬†is a stand alone tale about the Russian Avenger starring Scarlet Johansson and Florence Pugh, it’ll be on Disney+ and at theatres on July 9th.
