We STAN TF out of Demi Lovato to be honest. Aside from the fact she’s mega-talented, she’s always been open and unapologetically honest about her life and her struggles.

She’s the kind o’ gal you can imagine you’d just be mates with in real life. Sipping a mocktail at the end of a long day and chatting sh*t about co-workers whilst talking about your feelings or complaining about some ass hole who hurt your feelings. She just seems very… normal. Likeable.

One area she’s always freely discussed is the journey of her sexuality. Some popstars have been accused of making statements about their sexual orientation to promote records or garner a fanbase amongst the LGBTQ+ community, but with Demi it’s always felt like an honest and fluid experience.

The next stage in that journey for her has come in the form of an interview published in Glamour’s March issue, where she reveals that she’s finally discovering her sexuality.

Demi Lovato opened up about ending her engagement to Max Ehrich, saying that she now feels she’s “too queer” to be with a cis man and that the breakup was a “relief that I could live my truth.”

She discusses her experiences with other women saying that she liked it “a lot more”. “It felt better. It felt right. Some of the guys I was hanging out with ― when it would come time to be sexual or intimate, I would have this kind of visceral reaction. Like, ‘I just don’t want to put my mouth there.’ It wasn’t even based on the person it was with. I just found myself really appreciating the friendships of those people more than the romance, and I didn’t want the romance from anybody of the opposite sex,” she continued.

The interview comes ahead of the release of a new documentary which explores her life and notably her well-publicized 2018 relapse and subsequent overdose where she ‘had three strokes and a heart attack’ and that she had ‘5 or 10 minutes’ to live.

You can watch the trailer for the YouTube documentary below, it looks like pretty harrowing stuff. In terms of this Demi-related news piece though, it’s lovely to celebrate a young woman’s journey of positive sexual discovery.

Respect, Demi.
