The movie version of giant musical smash Wicked has been in the crystal ball for nearly two decades now and Amanda Seyfried is campaigning HARD to play Glinda the Good Witch.

Speaking to the Variety Award Circuit podcast, Seyfried said “I’ve been campaigning for Wicked for five years. I’ve never been more ready to hit those notes.” Despite being in Mamma Mia, Les Miserable and Mamma Mia – Here We Go Again, she hired a voice couch in order to make sure she was on top form for a part she hasn’t even got yet. That’s dedication.

Seyfried even sent a video of herself to the movie’s attached director, Crazy Rich Asians‘ Jon M. Chu singing Glinda’s stand out number ‘Popular’ AND has ideas on who she’d like to play opposite her. “For a while it was Anna Kendrick, because I thought that her Elphaba would be really solid, and you know, I sing the high notes and she can sing, she can be the alto.” she explained.

“At one point, it was Anne Hathaway too. She could obviously be Elphaba.” It seems like she has a favourite though in the shape of Brit Samantha Barks who she co-starred with in Les Mis. “There’s nobody else like Samantha Barks,” she said, “Samantha is my number one. I mean, there’s no better singer in the world, I think.”

Time is of the essence however as Glinda is a high school girl in the musical and at 35 she still has plenty of time (Grease anyone?) but says “There’s things that you will always be attached to and want to do, no matter how old you get. If they still haven’t made Wicked by the time I’m 50, then fine, I’ll let it go.”

We say never let go, anyone who wants it that much deserves to at least get a shot!
